Exercise & Fitness
Tips for improving your exercise experience:
- Exercise with a friend. You are less likely to talk yourself out of an exercise session if you are planning to work out with someone else.
- Don’t feel like you have to join a gym. Walking can be done anywhere and is a great form of exercise However, if you’re interested in a gym, be sure to ask about weight limits on exercise equipment, since many are built to hold up to 300 – 400 lbs.
- Listen to music while you exercise, but be aware of your surroundings.
- Drink plenty of water The body’s main means of cooling itself is through the evaporation of sweat Even if you do not feel like you are sweating a lot, you are still losing fluids, which puts you at risk for dehydration.
- Warm up and cool down. You must allow a minimum of 3 minutes for your body to both warm up and cool down from exercise. This simply means doing your chosen form of exercise at a lower intensity, and is very important for preventing injury and cardiovascular issues.
- Beware of gimmicks. If a piece of exercise equipment claims to do things that sound too good to be true, don’t buy into it.
* We recommend that your see your physician before starting any exercise routine, particularly if you have not exercised recently.
