Cardiac Rehabilitation
The Northwest Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Program provides services to people who have heart problems and those at risk of developing heart disease.
While surgery can fix a patient’s immediate heart problems, cardiac rehabilitation is just as important in helping patients make positive lifestyle changes to regain their quality of life.
The goal of the Northwest Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is to help patients lower their risk for cardiovascular disease and recurrence of cardiac problems by teaching them to recognize positive health choices. The Cardiac Rehabilitation staff is a medically trained, multidisciplinary team consisting of nurses, exercise physiologists and dietitians, with oversight by a board-certified cardiologist.
Patients in the program are individually partnered with staff members who help identify their risk factors and tailor a program designed to reduce their risk of further heart problems.
Exercise classes are held two to three times a week. The classes are designed to improve cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength, flexibility and balance, using many different kinds of equipment. The focus is on reaching a patient’s personal goals in a casual, fun and supportive atmosphere.
Additional weekly educational classes are designed to provide information to help patients make lifestyle changes. The program require referral from a physician. The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is located in the state-of-the-art Cardiac Fitness Center in the McMurray Building, on Northwest Hospital’s main campus.
